Treva: my mom, so empathic and intuitive, & she has always believed in me. Despite not having a high school education, she was my GREATEST teacher. She passed away, November 2006, from congestive heart and kidney failure, with Alzheimer's.
Jim Sr.: my dad, & he instilled in me a great work ethic and sense of perseverance. He passed away, November 2002 from lung cancer.
Rosey: my sister, who has always fought for me and loves me unconditionally. She did yeowoman's work caring for our mom. Although she will contest otherwise, she is one of the strongest women I know.

Jim L. Query, Jr., (Ph.D., Ohio University, 1990; M.A., Ohio University, 1987; B.A., Indiana University, Indianapolis, 1984) is a Professor of Communication at James Madison University. From 2002-2006, he was an Associate Professor at the University of Houston (UH), held a joint appointment with the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, and was Research Director of the Health and Crisis Communication Center. From July 2003 - December 2004, he was the Director of Graduate Studies at UH. He was President of the Alzheimer's Association of Tulsa, Oklahoma from 1991 to 1994. From 2002-2006, he was the Editor of a scholarly journal, Communication Studies (CS). Currently, he serves on the National Advisory Board of I-CARE.
In addition to being a summer research fellow and consultant with the National Cancer Institute, he has worked and taught at the Indiana University School of Nursing, the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and School of Interpersonal Communication, Ohio University East, the University of Tulsa., Loyola University Chicago, and the University of Houston.
The bulk of his research examines the communication of social support during major life events such as retirement, caregiving during Alzheimer's, caregiving across ethnically diverse groups, returning to higher education, living with AIDS, and living with cancer. His other research interests include real time and virtual support groups, eating disorders, chronic health conditions, multi-cultural health, e-health, Weick's model of organizing, as well as work teams and the management of stress and burnout in organizations.
Dr. Query has published several refereed articles,and chapters in scholarly books, as well as multiple textbook chapters and book reviews. He authored the second edition of the Instructor's Resource Manual for the Frey, Botan, and Kreps (2000) Investigating Communication textbook. Dr. Query has written and received several formula grants. He has served or is presently serving on the editorial board of the American Behavioral Scientist, Health Communication, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Communication Studies, and Human Communication Research. He was a Contributing Editor, Book Reviews, for the Journal of Health Communication: International Perspectives. He has held several professional offices in the International Communication Association, the National Communication Association (formerly SCA), and in the Central States Communication Association. He has also consulted for the Baylor College of Medicine and the U. T. School of Public Health.
In 2010, two books should be published with the first being a graduate health communication text coauthored with Drs. Trish Amason and Mindi Golden. The second book will be an edited volume with coeditor, Dr. Maria Brann.
